An Overview of the Market for Large Flat Panel TVsIt is clear from around the world that consumers want two things from their next main television: bigger screen size, smaller form factor. In the last year or two, it has become clear that customers will pay a premium for a flat panel TV rather than a bulky CRT. Looking at stores selling TVs these days, it is hard to find the CRT-based sets hidden away in some back corner of the shop. Despite this bonanza, few manufacturers are making much money out of the business — in fact margins are tight throughout the supply chain. One UK store reports that last year the sales ratio was 5:1 in favour of CRT sets; this year the figures have been reversed. This is a major paradigm shift in buying habits. Now that flat panel TVs based upon plasma display panels (PDP) or liquid crystal displays (LCD) have become the norm, at least in the affluent parts of the world, we are left with a number of shortcomings in the existing solutions: · Neither PDPs or LCDs produce true black in the image — an issue with home cinema enthusiasts who view in subdued light. · They are power hungry — a problem for the planet. · The manufacturing costs are high with the result that, to maintain market share, margins are being cut to the bone and beyond — a problem for everyone in the supply chain. MIMIV has the technology to solve all three problems. The market for flat panel TV is huge with iSuppli/Stanford Resources (the display industry's prime analysts) conservatively estimating it $30-40 billion per year. MIMIV are the owners of the printable Field Emission Display (pFED™) technology, a radically less-expensive technology to build large flat panel TV's. This major breakthrough is enabling display manufacturers to once again plan for future cash positive and profitable market entry and control! pFED™s are set to become the world standard for large TV's, eclipsing all other technologies include Plasma, LCD's, CRTs and Projection. |
